Welcome to the HCFE - Alabama Website

We are a coalition of organizations, businesses and individuals who advocate quality, affordable health care for everyone … meaning government-funded health care, beginning automatically at birth for everyone, ending only at death, constantly in place throughout all of life, covering all necessary medical care, that is privately delivered, with unrestricted choice of physician and hospital.

There are no dues or membership fees to join the coalition.

Coalition Membership Details

THE COALITION MEMBERSHIP DETAILS Other names: Government-funded health care for everyone is also sometimes called “Medicare for All” or the “Single Payer” proposal. Rep. John Conyers’ bill, HR 676, puts the proposal in the form of legislation for Congress to consider.

Functions:
The coalition will work to influence national, state and local governments to make universal health care accessible to everyone.
Under IRS regulations, it may advocate positions or issues, but it may not support or oppose political candidates..

The coalition may join with other like-minded organizations to promote its cause.

The coalition will publicize the names of its members when it believes that doing so is useful excepting those members who have indicated they do not wish their names made public.

Membership:

Membership is open to any organization, business or individual that supports the coalition’s cause. The coalition will terminate membership of any individual or organization that works at cross-purposes to the objective of the coalition.
Membership is not limited to Alabama organizations, businesses or people.
Members are free to identify themselves as members or representatives of the coalition when, and only when, their speech or actions are consistent with the objectives of the coalition.
Service to its members:

The coalition will undertake to provide an internet newsletter, available by free subscription , intended to keep its subscribers aware of state and national progress toward government funded, quality, affordable health care for everyone. The newsletter will include upcoming events and campaigns, petitions and summaries of news articles and blogs.
The coalition will undertake to organize one-day quarterly meetings once each quarter, rotating from one part of the state to the next, with morning sessions devoted to issues, afternoon sessions devoted to strategy and tactics. The purpose of the meetings is both to keep members aware of current happenings and to provide for education of new activists.
The fall meeting each year will also operate as a business session, providing opportunity for election of officers and for the conduct of business.

The coalition will undertake not to burden its members with unsolicited e-mail

Economics:

There shall be no dues nor financial obligations imposed on member organizations or individuals.
From time to time, organizations may be asked to solicit their members for contributions, or to make contributions themselves. Individual members will be afforded opportunities to make donations.
At present, the coalition is a 501-C(4) organization, as the term is understood by the IRS. It is authorized to seek to influence legislation. The coalition is tax exempt, but contributions to it are not.
At an appropriate time, a sister organization, qualifying under IRS regulations governing 501-C(3) organization, may be organized. That organization would have an educational function, but would be prohibited from seeking to influence legislation. Contributions to a 501-C(3) organization are tax deductible.

Amplified:

There are multiple proposals for improving health care access that do not include government funding, or do not cover everyone, or do not cover all necessary medical care. The coalition sees no problem if a member endorses a more limited objective so long as the member also advocates the coalition’s objective of government funded quality health care for everyone. In turn, Health Care for Everyone – Alabama may support other organizations whose missions are steppingstones toward the objective we endorse.
